In 2008 I was male lead singer in
3 award- winning production shows on the largest cruise ship in the world, RCCL's Legend of the Seas. When the contract was over I felt unfulfilled. All my career had been spent onstage and I had never taken the time to do something "real". I could not think of anything more real than being a US Army Soldier where life & death are a vigilant struggle. So at age 39, I signed a 6 year active contract with the Army.
People often ask me about my transition from a privileged lifestyle to the rigorous, unglamorous lifestyle of a soldier - they ask if I like the Army. I honestly won't say that I always like my life now, but I could never be more proud of who I am. And for me, that is much more important. If all you want to do is play and have fun your whole life, that is your priority and prerogative. Personally, I would like to do something a little more meaningful.
